Streetcar Network Report--May 2008
Streetcar Network Appendices--Coming May 12
The City Council approved a Seattle Streetcar Network Concept in February 2008 (via Resolution 31042), and authorized the Seattle Department of Transportation to proceed with an evaluation of this network concept toward identification of the most promising routes for early implementation. As shown in Exhibit 1, the approved network concept identifies numerous potential corridors and routes including:
• First Hill/Capitol Hill/International District
• Central District/International District
• Rainier Avenue/First Hill
• UW/Eastlake/Lake Union/Downtown
• Fremont/Ballard/Lake Union/Downtown
• Ballard/Interbay/Seattle Center
• First Avenue/Waterfront
• Seattle Center/SLU/Capitol Hill
• West Seattle/Downtown
A Seattle Streetcar network would provide new urban mobility options that would enhance the city and regional transportation system while shaping and supporting continued economic growth. The network would serve and encourage a broad variety of work and non-work trip and greatly expand the ability to live and work without using an automobile in the areas it serves and connects.
