Seattle Celebrates Streetcar Opening; businesses, retailers and nonprofits announce events, giveaways, prizes and discounts to launch Seattle’s new modern Streetcar; Streetcar passengers ride free December 12 - 31
Shops, restaurants, businesses and attractions all along the new South Lake Union line of the Seattle Streetcar – from Pacific Place to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center – have teamed up on a series of special events and promotions to celebrate the city’s newest choice for public transportation.
Throughout the month of December, passengers on the new Streetcar can earn exciting prizes and discounts. In addition, passengers can ride the Streetcar free starting on opening day through December 31, 2007.
Grand Opening & Station Hop
Streetcar Inauguration Ceremony
Starting at 11:30 a.m. on December 12, city and state elected officials will join the public to commemorate the official start of streetcar operations at the Westlake Hub, located at Westlake Avenue and Olive Way.
Station Hop
At 12:12 p.m., the Seattle Streetcar will begin passenger service. Select stations will sponsor events and special giveaways throughout the first day of service, including:
Pacific Place Station ( Westlake Hub)
Ribbon cutting ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. to open the Streetcar line at 12:12 p.m. Information tables and light refreshments will be provided. Pacific Place will be giving away holiday guides, shopping bags and Neuhaus Chocolate samples. The city of Seattle will be handing out Streetcar items such as magnets, pens, bookmarks, stickers, buttons, posters and golden tickets to the first passengers.

Pan Pacific Hotel Station at 2200 Westlake (Westlake and Denny)
Pan Pacific hotel stewards will be distributing complimentary Streetcar tote bags with special offers from South Lake Union retailers and restaurants at the Pan Pacific Hotel station. The Clark Gibson Quartet from Cornish College of the Arts will be playing lively jazz and blues. Tutta Bella will be offering free gelato and espresso samples. Marazul will be providing free samples of Jerk Pork Pot Stickers and Jamaican Jerk Chicken Sate. Starbucks will be providing free coffee and holiday beverage samples. Whole Foods Market will be offering beverage and sandwich samples.
Group Health Station (Terry and Thomas)
Group Health, Group Health Credit Union, Rain Fitness and Starbucks will be offering free giveaways.
UW/UW Medicine Station ( Lake Union Park)
Lake Union Park, MOHAI, Northwest Seaport and The Center for Wooden
Boats will be offering free row boat rides, coupons for free row boat
rides, oral history interviews, self-guided walking tours and holiday

“I Rode the Streetcar” Discount Program
Passengers who ride the Streetcar during the first week of operations, December 12 – 16, 2007, can pick up an
“I Rode the Streetcar” sticker on the Streetcar.
These stickers entitle wearers to receive discounts and freebies at participating shops, restaurants, businesses and attractions all along the streetcar line, from downtown Seattle to South Lake Union. Just show your sticker to receive a discount or freebies!

Beat the Holiday Parking Blues
Pacific Place , Seattle Department of Transportation and Vulcan Real Estate have teamed up to make holiday parking a snap!
From December 12 through December 31, holiday shoppers can park at 2200 Westlake and receive a $5 gift card from Pacific Place, just a short streetcar ride away. Shoppers can redeem their gift card, good at any Pacific Place retailer, by simply showing their 2200 Westlake parking ticket and a receipt from any same-day purchase made at Pacific Place. To sweeten the savings, FREE 90 minute parking is available at 2200 Westlake with any validated purchase at 2200 retailers. In addition a special holiday parking rate of $6 for three hours is available Dec. 12 – 16 at 2200 Westlake.
The parking garage at 2200 Westlake is located on 9th Avenue, just off Westlake Ave. and around the corner from Whole Foods Market.
